Wayanad, the green paradise is nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, forming the border world of the greener part of Kerala. Clean and pristine, enchanting and hypnotizing, this land is filled with history and culture. Located at a distance of 76 km. from the sea shores of Kozhikode, this verdant hill station is full of plantations, forests and wildlife. Wayanad hills are contiguous to Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu and Bandhipur in Karnataka, thus forming a vast land mass for the wild life to move about in their most natural abode.
Wayanad is blessed with some of the best falls within the state of Kerala. Three such breathtaking falls are the Meenmutty Falls, the Suchipara Falls and the Kanthampuram Falls, which are a must visit for every tourist to that part of the country.
Meenmutty Falls, located 29 km from Kalpetta in Wayanad District, is a three-tiered waterfall with a height of 300 metres. Meenmutty Falls, the largest and most spectacular waterfall in the Wayanad District, is a 2 km hike though the jungle from the main Ooty Road. It is Kerala's second largest waterfall and one of the most unspoiled in its natural setting. Each of its three tiers requires a separate hike through a moist, deciduous forest. The path is quite dangerous and tiring but the waterfall makes the strain of the trek more than worth it.

Chembra peak.
Chembra is the highest peak in North Kerala about 2100 meters above sealevel. This is among the most picturesque Hill stations close to the Western Ghats and delight to trekkers and nature lovers. Reaching the top is a bit hazardous. The nearest town is Kalpetta.
Pookot Lake
The natural fresh water lake, very wide and deep is one of the rare reservoirs of water in Wayanad. Surrounded on all sides with meadows and trees, this place is a center of solitude for profound travellers. About 3 km from Lakkidi, is this small and placid freshwater lake, 21ft at its deepest and covered in parts with lotus flowers. Pookote Lake is the most visited tourist spot in Wayanad.
Lakkidi
You will have to negotiate nine hairpin bends, making for a thrilling ride. Drive out from Lakkidi towards the ghat pass. Just before the ghat begins, you will come across a curious sight-the famous Chain Tree of Lakkidi, a banyan tree with chains wrapped around its trunk.

If you are in Wayanad on your Kerala tour, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a must visit. The sanctuary is part of the Wayanad plateu and is home to tigers, leopards, elephants and a number of other animals. The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is located 16 kilometres east of Sultan's Battery and is also known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary.

Is 10 km from Thirunelly, an important bird watching centre. Trekking is the only mode of reaching this place.
